i mostly play violin, and have been doing so fairly seriously and unseriously for 13 years. i didn't go to college in music but i have fairly extensive experience playing chamber music and in orchestras, and just fooling around with random musicians. i played violin in the rock/punk/happy band R?ber Band for about a year.
i have also played piano off and on since i was 6, i play prima balalaika (a russian guitar-like instrument that is shaped like a triangle) with the UW Russian Folk Orchestra and i have played the ugandan xylophone for two and a half years and some javanese gamelan for less than that.
also, World Beat is a weird name for a genre.
