I play guitar and sing, have been playing for [mumble-mumble] years. I've never tried to play a true lead guitar, but I get in finger-picks and riffs and flourishes that make my guitar work more interesting than mere strumming. I also play a little piano -- not yet strong enough to play and sing at the same time, but perhaps in time....
I play mostly Boomer-era music, singer/songwriter and folkies, and artists since then with comparable and derivative styles: James Taylor, John Sebastian, Neil Young, CSN/CSNY, Donovan, Joni Mitchell, Beatles, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Dylan, Eric Clapton, Cat Stevens, John Prine, Eagles, McGarrigles, Roches, Peter-Paul-Mary, Carole King, Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones, Simon & Garf, etc.
Hoping to find a like-minded bassist and/or female vocalist (w/at least some instrumental ability) for harmonies. If two or three of us can work up a dozen or so numbers, then we can go shopping for one or two more bandmates for greater instrumental diversity as we expand our playlist. I'd like to start with just two of us getting acquainted and working up a dozen or so numbers to see how we work together, and then recruit a third to join us -- either a female vocalist with some instrumentation to contribute, or (if you are a female bassist/singer yourself) a third instrument and vocalist of either gender. I just want to make sure that we lay our foundation with a bassist and at least one female vocalist in the mix.
I'm Boomer-era myself, but am comfortable playing/working with people of any age. I'm serious about music, but stylistically casual and informal. I have a six-string acoustic guitar w/pickups, and two more w/out pickups. I also have a Clavinova (pseudo-piano), not so easy to move but not impossible, and a Yamaha electronic (synth) piano that is much easier to transport.
No delusions of grandeur about getting rich and famous, but I think it's entirely realistic to try to become good, and eventually to book a few local gigs. I expect we would rehearse at least once a week, sometimes twice, depending on how our schedules mesh.
